Cruise ship keeps my passport?

Post by Rionna on Sat Mar 14, 2015 5:25 pm

Hi

I'm going on a Western Mediterranean cruise next August on Rhapsody of the Seas. I just read somewhere that on European cruises, they take your passport at the beginning and don't give it back until the end. Should I be worried?

Hello Rionna,

Yes, Cruise ship can take your passport but they need them only for the clearance procedures upon arrival and in some cases on departure. In any other time you can have your passport. Be sure that you keep the receipt they will give yo if they take your passport.
This is a standard procedure and it is in the general conditions.

Cruise ship keeps my passport?

Post by Pro_Cr on Sun Mar 15, 2015 5:30 pm

Last year on an Asia cruise they took my passport in China and kept it ashore without my permission. How is this possible?

Hello,

An advice from us - whenever you give your documents to a cruiseline - make sure that you have received an explanation in writing why are your documents needed and the name of the person that is taking them.

Let us know if we can help more.
